SHOULD CHILDREN BE ALLOWED TO USE ELECTRONIC GADGETS FREELY?

Children of this age have easy access to electronic gadgets, particularly mobile phones. Technology developed over the past two decades including smartphones, laptops, tablets and the applications that populate them has radically transformed what childhood looks and feels like. I think their access to electronic gadgets has a mixed impact on them. These gadgets no doubt have transformed childhood that we know as nowadays the ratio of children playing outside to those using phones has decreased but on the other hand children have absorbed its positive impacts as well. Children these days learn to speak English just by watching cartoons on YouTube so I think that children should be allowed to use electronic gadgets but certain limitations should also be provided to them. Electronic gadgets have also had a positive impact on children it includes development of cognitive skills, motor skills increase of knowledge etc. Cognitive skills are the ability to process information, reasoning, remembering and relating objects with other objects. These skills are directly related to memory and language. Nowadays technology helps for a faster and better development of cognitive skills in children. When a child plays a game he will recognize winning and losing, this activity can introduce him to a struggle, an effort with which children will be more enthusiastic to get the results they want. On the other hand, it has also had a negative impact on children. It leads to aggressiveness and hyperactivity in children. Studies have shown that too much gadget time may negatively affect a child’s brain with its functioning and may even cause an attention deficit, cognitive delays, impaired learning, increased impulsivity and increased ability to self-regulation. Long term effects of the children’s exposure to radiation emitted from mobile phones and other wireless technologies are not fully understood yet. Overexposure to phones and other wireless technologies should be avoided to protect their cognitive performance in this light. Setting time limits for gadgets used by children is highly advised.
