MAKING MEMORIES

As soon as we boarded the school bus, I knew it was going to be a wild ride. It was our senior year and our class had been planning this trip for months. We headed to a famous amusement park three hours away, and I was excited to spend the day with my best friends. But as the bus pulled out of the school parking lot, my mind flashed back to a similar trip we took in middle school – a trip that ended in disaster. It was a field trip to a nearby zoo and we were all excited to see the animals. I remember feeling particularly giddy that day, maybe it was the excitement of being out of the classroom, or maybe it was just because I was surrounded by my friends. There was a cacophony of noises. As we wandered around the exhibits, we suddenly heard a loud commotion coming from the monkey enclosure. We rushed over to see what was going on, only to find that one of the monkeys had managed to grab a camera from a tourist’s hand and was now running around, snapping selfies. I couldn’t stop laughing as I watched the monkey’s antics. But then, as if on cue, the monkey ran straight towards our group. Before we knew it, it had jumped onto one of my friend’s shoulders and was tugging at her hair! We all panicked and started running in different directions, screaming at the top of our lungs. I remember feeling embarrassed as the zookeeper had to come over and retrieve the camera, while we cowered in fear. Now, as we pulled up to the amusement park, I couldn’t help but think that something equally ridiculous was bound to happen. My friends and I immediately split up, each running toward our favorite rollercoasters and attractions. The first ride we went on was a spinning tea cup ride, which we thought would be a good warm-up. But as the ride started to spin faster and faster, I suddenly felt the urge to vomit. I stumbled off the ride, feeling dizzy and nauseous. As I tried to steady myself, I noticed a group of elderly ladies staring at me, looking concerned. One of them approached me and asked if I was okay. I tried to assure her that I was fine, but then I ended up throwing up all over her shoes. Mortified, I tried to apologize, but she just laughed and told me that it was all part of the amusement park experience. As the day went on, the mishaps continued. One of my friends lost her phone on a rollercoaster, and another got stuck on a ride and had to be rescued by the staff. At one point, we even accidentally ended up in the employee break room instead of the restroom. Despite all the chaos, we had an amazing time. We laughed until our stomachs hurt and made memories that we still talk about today. As the sun started to set, we knew we also had to set to our homes. We made our way back to the bus, I realized that these were the moments that I would remember for the rest of my life. As we drove back to school, exhausted and happy, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for all the silly moments and the friends who made them happen. Maybe it wasn’t the perfect trip, but it was definitely a trip that we would never forget. After all, these are the highlights which you reminisce about through the years.
