MOBILE PHONE ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
Nowadays, mobile phones play a major role in our
lives. They have multiple benefits as well as some
drawbacks. Mobile phones were invented by Marlin Cooper in 1973 but mobile phones were brought into
the market in the year 1983. A mobile phone is actually
a device that connects us with the people far away.
Advantages:
• Mobile phones connect you with friends & relatives
abroad. initially, mobile phone were able to perform
fewer functions than those that are available
nowadays. Now we have calculator, alarm, videos,
chat, messaging, cameras and we can even make
presentations on mobiles nowadays. • It is considered the quickest mode of communication
whether by calling or messaging. It is a means of
entertainment as we can play games on it or listen
to the music. We can access our social networks
with one click & watch any movie from internet. • Studying is easier with quick look up, search &
dictionary options which are just one click away. • With GPS technology we can access maps &can
also know where is the traffic jams & which routes
are blocked.
• Disadvantages: • Mobile phones are a big distraction & they hamper
our concentration on work. While we are doing our
work, their noise of each notification can arouse
our curiosity & we end up losing focus on task at
hand. • There are health problems e.g. we get weak
eyesight, if we use too much mobile phones. • Repetitive strain injury can also occur to our fingers
by continuously tapping our fingers on mobile
phones. Somehow, we have lost track of how
beautiful relationships & communication we can
have without the use of mobiles. • We also become addicted to games on phones.
College students may even play games in lectures
& this causes a distraction that directly affects
academics of a student. • Mobile phone is necessary for our modern lives
today. It would be wiser to use it minimum and for
it’s true purpose in an appropriate way. Asma Majid VI Maroon
